“Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”
May 24th, 2008 by KananiWhen I think of “Indiana Jones,” the first thing that comes to mind is… Disneyland! Each time I visit the Magic Kingdom, I get carried away in its euphoric environment. I am given a reality check though, when I have to stand in those ridiculously long lines just to experience a couple-minute thrill ride. Nevertheless, I will always wait in line for the “Indiana Jones Adventure”. For you Disney regulars out there, you may remember the part in the ride where a gigantic boulder is heading towards you, then all of a sudden the vehicle you’re in jolts back a bit, then dips downward going full throttle to avoid the boulder. Well, like all rides in make-believe land, the boulder is not really going to crush you, but time and again that is the one part in the ride that gets my heart pumping. That feeling of adventure and vulnerability was what I wanted to experience in “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” directed by Steven Spielberg – and you know what? I surely was not disappointed.
When the movie opens, Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) is held hostage by the KGB, then escapes. The next part shows him teaching a college class, when he is interrupted to learn that the FBI is after him. He then changes into his Indy garb and jumps on a train, where he looks out his window to find Mutt Williams (Shia LaBeouf) requesting his attention. Jones and the kid head to a diner where they hash out the details of the adventure to come, and the movie gets going as they try to find the crystal skull and return it to its intended home.
The one thing that I wondered about before heading into this movie was if Harrison Ford would be able to keep up with his character as Indiana Jones, because he has aged since the last movie. I guess the filmmakers felt the same way I did and made it an issue in the film, with disclaimers inserted wherever they could poke fun at his age. At the beginning of the movie, Jones says, “…not as easy as it used to be… we were younger, we had guns.” Mutt also makes a few comments, which include: “You know for an old man you’re not bad in a fight, what are you, like 80?” He also urges Jones to hop on his motorcycle when he says, “Get on, gramps!” I sensed an insecurity about Jones’ physical state throughout. However, Ford kept up and his age just made him look all the more wiser.
The movie is set in 1957, which was validated by the old-fashioned looking title sequence. But c’mon, with the technology and handy special effects in the film industry today, there is no way the movie is going to have the raw authenticity of a 1957 classic, like “12 Angry Men” starring Henry Fonda. The movie was trying too hard to look old, which was more obvious at the beginning of the film. Once the scene shifts to the caves and the waterfalls, the year does not seem to matter much.
The 411 Fo’ Reel: The action in this movie was incredible and kept my attention. I loved this movie! You have to see it if you are an Indy fan.

The latest Indy installment is getting trashed by the critics but what da hay, fans will enjoy it no mettah. I don’t think Harrison Ford has done his best work yet. I really enjoyed him as Dr. Kimble in “The Fugitive” along with Tommy Lee Jones. Watched “No Man for Old Man” on dvd last night. Ending left me wanting more but characters were great as Tommy Lee Jones played the same US marshall/sheriff type role he did in “The Fugitive.” Great movie if you like a bloody suspense thriller.

I was wondering about this movie, whether or not I would actually pay to see it or wait till it hits Blockbusters. I listened to a lot of friends who watched it and they all had mixed reviews. Your statement you made “I loved this movie” should be enough to get me up and going to the theaters! Usually it takes a good Cameron Diaz movie to do that. Hint Hint Ha Ha!!!!

I just saw this movie yesterday and thought it was pretty good as well. I liked the action and the comedy was great too. I was wondering though, if anyone else thought it was sorta cheesy at some points? I don’t remember the other Indy films being this . . what’s the word . . . hokey? Nevertheless, I think it was worth the wait. Harrison Ford was/is still great.

It was good, but no way did it match up to the rest of the Indy films. George Lucas is losing it. At least we didn’t get Indiana Jones and the Monkey King with the pygmies and gorilla armies fighting in the end as he had written in his original treatment.

Well the Tag team duo of Lucas and Spielberg has done it again with the fourth installment of the Indiana Jones Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Indiana is back older but wiser and still rough and tough as ever, This movie story line is great it put you back when hot rod were in, when rock and roll was shinning so bright in the teenager eyeâs; but it also show the draker side of those time when WE were testing nuclear explosion in the back yard in Nevada to the not seeing Eye to Eye with Country formaly call U.S.S.R also it shows when the government started to play Big Brother and also show how not caring about the south american rain forest back then led to what we are facing today.
This movie shows you a lot of things like history, comedy, Scifi and also the importance of Famliy. History well the movie talks about indianas past to Mitchell-Hedges the explore who really found a crystal skulls; it also mention Eldorado or the city of gold the famous city maybe located in South America and searched by Spanish explores to my be even local explores of today. Well as for comedy, this movie got of lot of it from sarcasms to showing whoâs the boss. Well Sci-Fi comes to this movie with a hit of conspiracy theory FBI cover upâs and out of this world actions nothing less for the tag team duo. Last but lease Family as you remember for the last Indiana Jones movie his father was introduced played by Sean Connery now how will the family work things out.
Therefore, I think Lucas and Spielberg have done it again. Coming up with another great indiana movie with growth in all asspect of the franchies from story line to character, to showing and teaching a little history at the same time, it also open your mind to a lot ideas about the world past future and present.
So take the time watch a great entertaining movie and let your imagination run wild.
